Ground Broken for Landmark Pinnacle Development
Four-tower residential project begins construction on Reading Peninsula
Ground was officially broken on January 20 for a large-scale residential development known as “The Pinnacle” in Montego Bay, marking the start of construction on one of the more prominent high-rise projects currently planned for Jamaica’s north coast.
The development, led by LCH Developments, is located in the Reading area on a coastal peninsula and is expected to include four residential towers rising up to 28 storeys. Project timelines outlined at the ceremony indicate construction will be carried out in phases over several years.
Project Scope and Features
According to information shared during the groundbreaking, the development is planned to include more than 500 apartment units, alongside a mix of supporting uses such as villas, recreational facilities, retail space, and dining areas.
The site’s location places it near the Montego Bay Marine Park and within a short drive of Sangster International Airport, positioning it within one of Jamaica’s primary tourism and infrastructure corridors.
Developments of this type increasingly combine residential and hospitality elements, reflecting a shift toward mixed-use projects that can accommodate both long-term residents and short-term visitors.
Government and Industry Participation
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by government officials and representatives of the development team.
Edmund Bartlett, Minister of Tourism, said the project aligns with efforts to expand the range of accommodation and experiences available in Montego Bay, including growth in what he described as “city tourism” alongside traditional resort offerings.
A senior government representative also referenced the project’s potential to contribute to economic activity, including construction employment and future service-sector roles associated with the completed development.
Marlene Malahoo Forte, Member of Parliament for St. James West Central and Minister of Legal and Constitutional Affairs, described the development as part of ongoing investment in the parish.
Developer Position
Yangsen Li, Chief Executive Officer of LCH Developments, said the project would incorporate environmental considerations alongside residential and commercial elements. He indicated that the design approach includes attention to the surrounding coastal environment, although detailed environmental plans were not presented publicly at the event.
Representatives of the development team, including Chairman Ziping Chen and Principal Architect Isiaa Madden, were also in attendance.
Market Context
The start of construction comes amid continued interest in real estate development along Jamaica’s north coast, where proximity to tourism infrastructure and international access points has supported demand.
Montego Bay remains a central hub for visitor arrivals, and projects in the Reading and Freeport areas have increasingly focused on higher-density residential formats, including apartment towers and mixed-use communities.
Timeline and Next Steps
While construction has now commenced, detailed timelines for completion of individual phases were not fully disclosed. As with similar large-scale developments, progress will depend on construction schedules, financing, and market conditions.
The Pinnacle project adds to a growing pipeline of coastal developments in Montego Bay, reflecting ongoing changes in land use and investment patterns across Jamaica’s primary tourism region.
